Colorful Birds: Lilac Breasted Roller

A friend from my dog agility showing days travels a lot for her work. It's great stuff helping women worldwide and I admire her for it! While she was on a trip to Botswana last year, she took a lovely photo of an incredibly colored bird: a Lilac Breasted Roller. I'd never heard of it before, but I fell in love with it's bright cheerful colors. It made me smile AND made me want to paint it. I just can't imagine a bird like this ever being sad :-). Shelah was kind enough to grant me permission to use her photo as a reference to create this piece. Thanks Shelah!
